About me

In the summer of 2019, during a crossroads moment in my career, I woke up one morning knowing I needed to write a book about the heart. I had been interested in the heart for a while, although previously had no thoughts of writing a book, or even exploring the heart in such detail. Several years later, my book writing is still ongoing and I'm currently looking for a publisher. Whilst my research has taught me a great deal about the theory of the heart and the information gathered has been very useful, its importance pales into insignificance compared with the learning I have gained through listening to my own heart. I now fully understand that direct experience is the only way we each come to truly know the heart and appreciate its value in our lives. I have always had an active enquiring mind and learning to regularly quieten the part of me constantly striving for knowledge and sink into the peace of my heart where true knowing lies, has been quite a journey. The rewards are immense however, and it is this revelation, rather than the theory of the heart, that I am now most keen to share with others.

My enquiring mind has stood me in good stead during my career which began 24 years ago as a nutritional therapist. A degree in Biochemistry, diploma in Nutritional Therapy, and Masters degree in Nutritional Medicine qualified me to do such work, however again it was direct life experience and my life-long interest in spirituality that taught me most about what encourages healing.

For most of my nutrition career, I focused on supporting people diagnosed with cancer and during this time I headed the nutrition teams at two UK cancer charities, lectured at various colleges, and spoke regularly at conferences. I also contributed to scientific papers and wrote the nutrition chapter for the book Enhancing Cancer Care, Complementary Therapy and Support. However, although I found the work rewarding, I was struck by the limits of a healthy diet when emotional and spiritual issues remain unaddressed, and came to realise true healing only occurs when our body and mind align with the deeper meaning spiritual connection brings to our lives. I am now teaching a way of eating to nutrition students that I call ‘Nutritional Coherence’, which seeks to harmonise our food choices with the vibrations of our being – body, mind and spirit.

Realising how important spiritual alignment is to the healing of body and mind has led me to expand my therapeutic training. In the last 10 years I have trained as a HeartMath Coach so that I can support people in connecting to their energetic heart and, through various exercises, help them achieve a state of heart coherence (energetic harmony). My training in the Energy Psychologies; Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and Matrix Reimprinting, allows me to support individuals in releasing old emotional pain, freeing up energy for healing and further encourage heart coherence. I have also trained with the Heart of Living Yoga School in heart meditation facilitation, enhancing my personal learning on how to enter the sacred space of the heart. Since childhood I have been interested in the Big Questions of life and have followed a life-long path of personal spiritual study. I am particularly interested in the Perennial Wisdom and have completed various studies in Theosophy and Gnosticism. The combination of my therapeutic training and years of spiritual study allows me to support people in deepening their spiritual awareness and bringing this all together, I have created a model for emotional and physical healing that fully engages and utilises the power of the heart; Heart Matrix Therapy.

Our learning is never done and it is with great anticipation and joy that I continue my journey of discovery regarding what allows us to heal and the role of the heart. As we currently navigate very challenging times, I am certain the incredible (largely untapped) power of our hearts has the potential to save us and save our planet. Many wise people know this and they are working hard to highlight the transformational abilities of the heart. I am committed to the same goal and through this website intend to showcase mine and other's work to support the heart in finding its way back to where it has always belonged - at the very centre of our lives.

"There is no need to run outside for better seeing nor to peer from a window.  Rather abide at the centre of your being; for the more you leave it, the less you learn. Search your heart and see, if he is wise who take each turn: the way to do is to be".

Lao Tzu

About the heart

The heart is central in our lives and yet we know so little about it. Despite our recent technological advances, the heart remains an unsolved mystery. When we speak of the heart, we could be referring to the physical organ, but equally we could mean the energetic heart or the metaphysical/spiritual heart. All three have a vital role in our lives and without one, the others couldn’t exist. Scientists believe they know a fair amount about the physical organ, but even though cardiac surgeons are able to save lives with heart transplants, there are still many unanswered questions. It is not even clear how the heart pumps our blood (or even, if it does!).

While there are still many gaps in our knowledge of the physical heart, we know even less about the energetic and spiritual hearts. These hearts are closely intertwined and deep within the energy centre situated in the middle of our breastbone is the point at which our individual soul connects with Universal Spirit. Although modern science knows little about these hearts, our ancient ancestors knew a lot more. We are wise to tap into this ancient knowledge because from this we can learn to awaken our heart and listen to its guidance.

In the ancient Eastern scriptures, the spiritual heart is depicted as a Lotus flower. The lotus, found in lakes and ponds, first begins to sprout under the water amongst the mud and dirt. It pushes itself up to clearer water and eventually emerges above the surface where, in the light of the sun, it slowly opens it petals to unveil its pristine beauty. Our true essence, found within our spiritual heart, also remains untouched by the impurities of our material world. If we focus on higher attainment, we too will leave the dirt behind and move towards the light. As we bask in the warmth of Universal Love our hearts will open to reveal the perfection of who we are.

"Your heart is full of fertile seeds, waiting to sprout. Just as a lotus flower springs from the mire to bloom splendidly, the interaction of the cosmic breath causes the flower of the spirit to bloom and bear fruit in this world.".

Morihei Ueshiba
